General Information

Sunset Road and Sunray Drive Intersection Improvements

General Description:

The Sunset Road / Sunray Drive Intersection is a Pima County Department of Transportation (PCDOT) safety improvement project located in the Northwest part of Tucson, west of Interstate 10.

The project proposes to improve the safety of this intersection by lowering the crest vertical curve on Sunset Road in order to provide the appropriate sight distance for both safety and operational benefit. In addition, this project will require public outreach and coordination with neighborhood residents and citizens affected by the proposed improvements. To avoid any adverse impacts to the adjacent washes, the project boundaries will be limited to approximately 250 feet East and 200 feet West of Sunray Drive on Sunset Road and 100 feet North of Sunset Road on Sunray Drive.

This project is a high priority for the department and will need to utilize all possible methods for innovation, efficiency and expedient delivery.

Construction Schedule:

Construction of this project is expected to start in late spring, 2008 and will last approximately three (3) months from beginning to end. For safety reasons and to expedite the work, the road will be closed to traffic while access will be provided to the residents immediately adjacent to the intersection.

While the project is under construction, Gerhart Road will be utilized as a detour to access residences that are not immediately adjacent to the intersection. Gerhart Road will be properly signed and maintained during construction.
