General Information

Sahuarita Road and Houghton Road Intersection Improvements

Project Description:

This project will consist of several changes to the intersection to improve the traffic flow and safety of the intersection. Currently, both Houghton Rd. & Sahuarita Rd. are two-lane roadways (one lane in each direction) with a 60' wide graded median on Houghton Road . These changes include replacing the current stop signs with traffic control signals, removing the existing median and adding dual left turn lanes and through lanes on the approaches to the intersection, adding a westbound and southbound right turn lane, constructing drainage improvements such as culverts, pipes, and ditches, and adding bicycle lanes, pedestrian access ramps, crosswalks, and walk/don't walk signals for pedestrians. The limits of the project will extend approximately 1,500 feet north, south, east and west of the intersection

Project Cost:

The estimated project cost is $4.5 million. Pima County received $2.5 million from the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) for this project and the remaining $2 million will be supplemented by developer impact fees.

Construction Schedule:

Design is scheduled to be finished in July, 2007. The estimated construction start is Spring, 2008.
